Hi there....

I just filed for AOS, and I received a letter with a notice of an appointment at the
INS office next month. It does not state the purpose, but it does say "Section of
law: (c) 9". I got told this was an appointmetn for an EAD and that makes sense, but
is there any way I can know ?

Which law are they talking about anyway ? There so many laws, regulations etc. that
it's hard to figure out.

Also, is there anything I need to bring if it is an EAD appointment, except for the
notice to appear, and the receipt of the filing ?

Also, at the bottom of the notice, it says that failure to appear will deem your
application abandoned. Does anyone have any idea of why that is, if it is only an
appointment for EAD ?

Best Regards, $Oyvind

Yes, that is the "section" that makes one authorized for an EAD.

I would bring proof that you filed your AOS. Your receipt should do.

I would go if you want an EAD, otherwise it will be another long wait!

Best wishes.

I would presume you applied for an EAD. You can work the rest out.

When you (or a lawyer) filled out the I-765 form, they had to specify the part of
immigration law that says why you are allowed employment authorization. (c) (9) is
the part of the law 8 CFR 274a.12 and says that somebody who's application to adjust
status is pending can get an EAD.

The letters I got from Arlington for my EAD appointment asked me to bring proof of
residency in Virginia or the District of Columbia (I took my driving license) and
photo ID (that would be my driving license again), my passport (which they've never
looked at) and the appointment letter. You might want to add a book to that list!

Andy.
