Thought I'd share some good news with everyone. I've just received my interview date at the US embassy in London! My interview is set for 18 Jan. I'm assuming the interview is a fairly painless/quick formality? Do I then receive my passport back (with the I-551 stamp?) a few days after the interview?
You will receive your passport back via courier, probably within a week. It will NOT have an I-551 stamp in it. It will have an Immigrant Visa in it.
You will get the I-551 endorsement at the POE, when you use your Immigrant Visa to enter the USA.

Congratulations!
