Obviously that's a generalization, but I think it's quite a good one without writing a long in depth historical and geographical thesis.

So if you or your British expat hubby had to sum it up in a sentence or two how would you put it?

Hmmm ... I know what my guess would be! Standard practice in market research is to sample one country based on age and ethnicity, and to sample the other country based on age and social class.
