F-I-L I-864 completed.
Tax Returns: 2010/11/12 - Plus W2 for 2012 tax return.

His income was different over those three years due to his wife not working after 2010 - will this be an issue?
You might want to include an attachment to the I-864, with a chart showing the total amount on each tax return, how much is his own income, and how much is his wife's, so the ConOff can see exactly how much HE made each year.

Is he using an actual photocopy of the tax returns? Or is he using official IRS tax transcripts? If he's using photocopies of all 3 years, he will need all 3 years W2 forms. If he's using IRS transcripts, he doesn't need W2s.
His wife's income level should not affect his own income level. The total amount of income on the tax returns might be different, if they are filing "married jointly", but his income alone should not be affected by his wife's income.

He gets his tax returns done by HR Block in the US so they are copies he has sent me. He has provided a letter with the breakdown for 2012, highlighting what is his income and what is his wife's income, as well as the W2.
I was going to just provide the most recent years tax return at the interview unless requested by the ConOff to give the previous years one, as the form says it is optional to provide the others.
For the 2011 and 2010 he has just provided the copy of the tax return for each year. I will ask him to provide the W2 for each of those as well. I will ask him to send a letter for each of those years as well noting the breakdown of income, just in case the ConOff needs it.
Thank you!

This is confusing, since W-2s are a part of the tax return (if there was income from employment). You shouldn't have to ask, he should be providing a copy of the complete tax returns. Make sure he's providing everything.

Booked Medical and have now submitted the Notification of Readiness form online as well as the DS-260. I photosnipped the confirmation page before I clicked submit so I have a visual copy of the form.
I have put down an estimated date in early March 2014 for intended travel.

The 1040 is just the basic tax form. On top of that, there could be additional schedules and forms, depending on the complexity of his financial situation. Just to give you an idea, my husband is self-employed, I'm employed by an employer, and our joint tax return is about 10 pages long, including the 1040 plus various other schedules and tax forms.
Please make sure he is sending you the ENTIRE tax return, exactly as he submitted it to IRS.

No Schedule A for itemized deductions?
No Schedule B for interest and dividends?
No 1099s for anything?
Not everyone needs Schedules A or B, or receives 1099s, but many people do and most people who use 1040 do (otherwise they'd use 1040A or 1040EZ).

Hi again! Just wanted to say that my daughter got a response today from her email she sent on October 25 to the link you provided, Hoffage. Apparently they sent her the letter with case number dated on October 22, so right around the same time lots of others were receiving theirs. She still hasn't received the letter, but they gave her the case number in the email. So, time to do the D-260, schedule the medical, etc. Thanks again, will keep you posted re the timeline.

Looking at his tax return, there haven't been any deducations in the column made after line 21/22 (the tax return was prepared by HR Block) - he has provided a 1099 for an earlier period in the tax year for 2012.
I think to be on the safe side I am going to ask him to order the official transcripts from the IRS and send those to us.

I thought I'd better clarify someting here in the event that MIL is not signing on as a Household Member for FIL's I-864 and FIL provides IRS tax transcripts rather than copies of the income tax returns.
I agree with Rene that FIL will have to provide a simple explanation of what income is his and what income is MIL's on the joint return. This means that he will want to include W2s with the tax transcripts to document the separation of the incomes.

His wife's income level should not affect his own income level. The total amount of income on the tax returns might be different, if they are filing "married jointly", but his income alone should not be affected by his wife's income.

Two more questions, if you all don't mind. Speaking of tax returns, my daughter (US citizen) will have her returns from the last three years for her husbands application. She has filed taxes from the UK and has had only UK income for that time, so she has no W2s to include. So does she need to provide transcripts of the returns? Because they will likely be moving here before she secures a job, (so no US income) my husband will be her husband's joint sponsor. He has provided three years of complete tax returns including W2s, schedules, etc.
Next question, on notification of readiness form, date of intended travel - they hope to/plan to travel sometime after the new year but no later than late May. Very unsure of their dates, at this point. Any suggestions as to what to put in this case?
