Default Green card application / timeline

I'm British and my wife and son are dual US/UK citizens. We plan on moving to the US end of next year. How far out would you advise on me starting my Green card application?

Most applications are taking between 10 and 12 months these days........ so probably start now.

+1. It could also take longer for any number or reasons (many of them ridiculous).

Now. Takes about a year just for the I-130 as a very rough guide going on recent timescales. https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

So assuming London is your consulate (which is one of the quicker ones for interviews), then it's about 15-18 months in total. Things may speed back up next year, but no way of knowing for sure so I'd definitely apply asap.

Good luck.

Just a note that you aren't applying directly for a green card. You'll be applying for an Immigrant Visa. When you enter the USA using the Immigrant Visa, you became a US Permanent Resident immediately. The green card comes in the mail some weeks later.
