It's not that the fingerprints expire...it's the validity of the fingerprint check that expires. I guess they figure 15 months is enough time to get into trouble if you hadn't before, so they take another set and submit them for another check.

Ya, but why do they need people to come in again... the fingerprints are the same. Why can't they just re-submit the old ones. Or is that too easy?

Hi Marnee,

Maybe when USCIS forwards them on to FBI or wherever for checking, they don't keep a copy. And FBI probably doesn't have time to go back in their records and look you up. It probably takes longer to do that, than to just go in for another set of new ones. Also, perhaps your information has changed since then...name, if you got married, or your mailing address...whatever they use to match up your information. Who knows?! LOL
