EAD Instructions confusion
Hi All,
I am in a state of confusion and I was wondering if I could some
insight to clear things up.
I am trying to renew my EAD and per the first page of the I-765 form,
it says if you reside in any one of these states, blah blah blah and
are one of the following categories, you need to direct mail to the
chicago lock box. I am a (c)(9) - family based petition - AOS.
But if I scroll down to the section "Part 5. Where to file", pages 8
and 9, it states for family based petition (c) (9), to file your
application at the same local USCIS office or Service Center where you
submitted your adjustment of status application.
Also, does that rule out my option of e-filing?
I am really confused and appreciate any help I can get!
Thanks!
Iad.

All EAD applications now go to the Chicago lockbox address. The I-765 form has not been updated to reflect that. You can still e-file if you want to, and send the backup to the Chicago lockbox address.
Best Wishes,

Hi Iad,
I beleive that Angelus received his EAD about two to three weeks after biometrics were done.
Hope that helps.
Good Luck!

Hi AdiaStar,
Did Angelus e-file after these new procedures of direct mail to Chicago
lockbox (I think it was effective as of April of 05)? Did he also send
the backup to Chicago lockbox as Renee suggested?
Thanks!

It will all depend on when you can get a biometrics appointment. We didn't e-file, but my husband's EAD renewal card came 3.5 weeks after his biometrics appointment.

The first time Angelus filed he did e-filing and no back-upwas sent(we called the mis information line a few times regarding this and was told the same thing by 4 different people-that we didn't need to send backup), this was July 2004.
As for his recent e-filing(August-2005), we are not sending any documents either.
I'm assuming if the application has to be sent to the Chicago Lockbox, that the back up would go there as well. That would make too much sense for the CIS/BCIS/USCIS though! HAHAHAHA
Good Luck!

Technically the instructions are mostly still correct; the NBC is a
"Service Center" also. Its receipt address for initial filings is the
Chicago Lockbox.
The instructions are incorrect only to the extent that they don't
account for the situation in which the I-485 was filed with a district
office prior to the switchover; in that case one would not file with the
local USCIS offic where the AOS application was submitted but rather
with the NBC via the Chicago Lockbox.
