Default do change last name ?

I wonder if change last name into my husband's name will bring me some
difficulties later. I know that I couldn't get new ID or DL till I will
have Green Card. All my documents have my last name , and if I get new
SSN with my husband's name it will not match. If I have my husband's
name I will not have any documents? How will I find a job, oppen an
account or rent an apartment?

If you applied for the GC based on marriage and used our married name on
the I-485, the GC should be issued in your married name. If you did not
but have not yet had your interview, you could ask the officer about
issuing the I-181 in your married name so that the GC comes out that
way. Then you can change the rest of your documentation over, starting
with your social security card. Keep a copy of the old card and the new
card to show you are the same person; using this you can get other
things like credit cards changed too so that all of your documents match.

While you're in the process of changing carry your marriage certificate with you.

Jonathan (and others),

I wonder if you could give me some pointers regarding my situation - the Netherlands doesn't know a name change after marriage. The wife can choose to use her husbands' name (or vice versa) but your last name will always be your last name.

I was born Elaine Green, and my passport will always say Elaine Green. Now that I'm married I can have it say 'Elaine Green (e.v. -'wife of'- Hunter)' but it would never be 'Elaine Hunter-Green' or 'Elaine Hunter'.

I did fill out everything (DCF) using the name I wish to have (Hunter-Green) but my PR card arrived saying 'Elaine Green'.

Even on the marriage certificate it says 'name after marriage: Elaine Green'. That's just how it is. So my Ohio DL only says Green. I have to go in to the SSA to apply for my SSN (automatic option on DS230 didn't work) and I will try to get them to put Hunter-Green, but if they don't (based on the marriage certificate), what are my options left besides a court name change or name change at the time of naturalization?

Elaine

I only have one first name, and took the opportunity to have a middle name *S*
Now, my Dutch maiden name is my middle name, and I carry my husband's last name.
Everything is in just my hubby's last name, exept my Social Security Card.
This is in both my maiden and last name, both names spelled out fully.
I used to carry my marriage certificate, especially when flying home,
(airline checks) since my passport was in my maiden name.
Last year we've been through a whole lot of paperwork, and had to make trips to their local Dutch office,
but we finally got our marriage officially registered in Den Haag.
Now, I have a new passport which says; echtgenote van/spouse of/ marie de .....
I stopped carrying my marriage license and hopefully, I'll never have problems again!

Me too! It feels kinda weird having a middle initial to put in those boxes.
