I just wanted to check something else. I have a photocopy of my Father-in-law's (joint sponsor) employment letter to prove his ongoing salary. Is a copy of this acceptable or would it need to be the original with copies? I know copies of his US citizenship proof and Tax returns are accepted so am assuming this is the same for his other i864 support documents.

Just curious how the process works when you get to the point of entry with a shiny new visa, is the decision made out on the "floor" or do you have to go to a special processing area? Is it fairly quick? In which line do you queue (we usually use the shorter American Citizen queue as 3/4 of the family are American)?
We're far off from this, but just interested.

You'll be sent to "secondary" for additional processing. It takes a short while to go through the envelope of material you'll be carrying.
Yes - usually less than 30 minutes. However, there may be 100 people ahead of you... or there may be 10... or none! So you'll have no idea how long it'll take before you get seen.
While no one will usually tear you a new one because of it, you really shouldn't be in the USC only line... as you're not a USC. That said, no one will probably make a fuss if you queue up in the wrong line.

I was escorted to the processing area, about 8 other people there so I was waiting around an hour. Then I was called up, given my passport with stamp and that was it

If you land at SFO they have a separate line for arriving visa holders. Doesn't make any difference to how long the process takes, it is all governed by how many there are in front of you, if it is at the desk or secondary inspection.

Or if you have the choice, get a non stop flight to your destination from a European hub, if there isn't a non stop flight from the UK.

They haven't updated their processing times for a week, and it's still showing March 23rd, which was the date they were processing 2 weeks ago!! I know they can't be hurried and that that can't be relied upon, just venting my frustration and impatience lol

Lol Emma.... I am with you on this one... I know I am just being impatient, but I also noticed that the site hasn't been updated in a week and also last week it was the same date (March 23) as the week before. Urggghhh lol... but look on the bright side.. maybe when they next update it might be the middle of April. Which will be a nice bonus! Remind me of your filing date again? Mine is May 1.
