Default Changing AOS interview date?

I know it is "frowned upon" to request for a change of dates / times for
the AOS interview, but we just received our interview notice (Nov.1,
Santa Ana, CA.)) and unfortunately my Mother in Law has become quite ill
and will need hospitalization imminently in my wife's home country.

Now, I have already composed a letter "respectfully requesting" a
rescheduling of the interview date due to "emergent Family reasons",
along with some medical details, and further explained that in possible
anticipation of this, my wife had applied for (and received) Advanced
Parole a few weeks earlier.

In addition to sending the INS Office a copy of the AP document, I was
also going to copy the air ticket (purchased last week) showing the
dates of planned travel, and a closing sentence that we both understand
and realize the seriousness of this appointment, and we BOTH will be
"absolutely certain" to attend ANY date given after my wife's return to
the USA.

Does this seems "legitimate enough" to justify a rescheduling, or will
this cause "red flags" to be raised, and thus warrant more intense
scrutiny at our rescheduled interview?

Any thoughts/ ideas appreciated.

Oddly enough, we applied for AOS at the Office mentioned above in early
June (2002), and we get the interview ONLY FIVE months from that date!
Surprisingly efficient, considering the "average" is 210 days (7
months). I guess our "luck" ran BOTH WAYS in our case!??

TIA,
HB

Default Re: Changing AOS interview date?

Well we were in a similar situation. We expected our interview to be 18-24
months from application and made plans to leave the country about 12 months
after applying. When we went to apply for AP they told us they would NOT
grant the AP because our AOS interview was going to be scheduled near that
time( although they didn't have an exact date for the interview.)

I hope they are understanding for you!

Good lucl!
