Change sponsor at interview
Hello,
I haven't posted here in quite some time either because we have been
patiently awaiting the interview notice. Our AOS (adjustment of status)
interview is on September 7, 2005. At the time we applied we had a
cosponsor. Now that I make enough to support my family, I will be the
sole sponsor for my husband. Do I need to go to the interview with a
brand new I864 (that's the form right?) already filled out or will the
Immigration officer do that for me? Please excuse my ignorance in this
matter.
Sincerly,
Jennifer

Fill out a new I-864 reflecting your current income, and bring along the necessary supporting docs (last three years' tax returns; current letter from employer confirming your position, status [FT or PT], length of service, and annual gross salary). Let them know that you no longer require the co-sponsor and would like to withdraw their affidavit of support from your file. Ask for it back, so you can give it back to the former co-sponsor and/or shred it.
Good luck at your interview!

Congratulations on the interview date! Yes, you need to complete a new notarized I-864 with the required backup information, including your 2004 taxes. At the interview, you might have to let the Officer know you have a new I-864 (they probably won't ask you for it automatically). The Officer will put your new I-864 in your file, and will give you back your and your joint sponsor's old ones.
Best Wishes,
Rene
