Carin, it's unlikely that you reached the Embassy by phone.. maybe the helpline? (pay per minute?) If so, beware information they give you--it's known for being less than correct.

The immigration medical must be done by an Embassy approved panel physician.

yes it was the help line, She said that it was possible to have the medical in scotland but would need to travel to london for interview.
Oh well thats great to know that you phone the helpline and their info isnt up to much while charging £1.20 per min.
I found out that the Edinburgh embassy was helpfull got some great info while applying for my sons passport, need togo there next week to pay for it will ask if they can give me any info on this.
