First post for me.

Today I received the letter from the US Embassy in London regarding my K1 Visa petition. I can now start to collect all the documentation needed. First to get the police report - it is stated in this letter that it might take up to 40 days as the National Identification Service will respond to my application form submitted at my local Station. Will it take around forty days?

The not sure from this when I should call my my medical examination. Does anyone have any info about the exam? I am a bit scared about it all really...

From reading posts it seems to be a 2/3 month wait for my interview. I am just trying to get the stages straight in my head! What to do first etc. Sorry if this is jumbled!

Congrats on getting your documentation package from the Consulate. You could have started on the police clearance long before you got the package. Unfortunately, it might well take 40 days or longer to obtain the clearance.

As for the medical, what in particular is making you nervous? It is a routine exam and there are so many Brits on here that have gone through it (women especially) can join in and tell you what to expect.

I didn't know that I would need a police report - I wish I had of done and got on to it earlier but heh, I'll crack on with it today...

Re the medical, not sure what is bothering me so much - I am just a worrier - I know I am fine for the STD side of things, which is what seems to be the biggest hurdle.

I went through Fiance Visa a few years ago..... The medical is a breeze and not a worry at all ...at the medical ( which mine was in the morning at Dr Palins office) they only take a little blood then u get an xray and thats it ! then i went to the embassy right after the docs had a brief interview and within an hour i had visa in hand. the process started at 8 am and i had visa in hand at 1pm the same day so K1 will be fine for u i am sure.

I think its the waiting is more stressful than anything else ...interview and medical is easy or was for me.

I used to work for the Police so since you dont have your police report all u got to do is call them up explain your urgency give them the date ur interview is and ask for the police report Urgently ...i know it can be done cause i got mine in a day and thats not cause i worked for the police at the time as i did submit my paperwork for police report and waited 40 days and they boobed by not processing it so they did it in a day for me so remember just call and explain im sure they will do it for you.

The medical process has changed since those days. The medical is the same, but it no longer occurs on the same day as the interview. It's done some time ahead of the interview now, and there is no more Dr. Palin (or was it Phelan?) office.

But there is still nothing to really worry about...it's just a routine exam.

wow i didnt know that the medical is done on a seperate day as interview ?

Thats gonna be a right pain when i get my interview and medical as i live in Scotland so it means i will have to make 2 trips for when the time comes is this correct ?

I guess it depends on how far ahead of the interview the medical is done. But yes, they no longer do the medical and interview on the same day.

According to this timeline from earlier this year, the medical was done about a week ahead of the interview.

Or you can do it on the day of the interview and have the results sent to the Consulate (double check, but I'm sure others have done this).
Visas are not issued on the same day anymore anyway. The visa won't be issued until your medical results are cleared, but it saves you a trip.

Ah, I too am from Scotland and had been thinking that the medical was done by your own doctor and then sent to the consulate as supposed to a London based one designated by the consulate. I'd picked this up (apparently incorrectly) from the visajourney flow chart.

Could someone just confirm that it is an Embassy designated doctor and that it will take place in London.

Yes, it must be done by an embassy-approved doctor (they will send you a list), and the medical is done in London.

Having spoke to the London Embassy today via phone call, i was wanting to find out information, i explained that i also stay in scotland and would it be possible to have the medical and interview with in a week (so it would only be one trip) I explained that my husband and minor child would need to go through this process. The Embassy explained, if i sent a letter with the requested document that are returned and explained the situation and how this would have an effect on us e.g. finance, minor child not a good traveller. They said that it could be arranged for the medical to happen in scotland.
So that is what i will be doing. Hope this helps
