Applying for Citizenship with Marijuana Misdemeanor
Good day!
I have been a permanent resident of the US (from Mexico) for more than 5
years. I've actually lived here since age 3, but my parents signed me up for
residency in my teens.
Now I am 19 years old and want to have my citizenship so I can go live with
my sister in Holland for a year without losing my residency. I have a
problem though. I was caught by the Po' for Marijuana possession and
received a misdemeanor for that. I went to jail for 24 hours and now I am
clean. I have not had any other problem than the Marijuana misdemeanor
throughout my life.
Do you think I will have any problems registering for my Citizenship?
As far as I know I am an American.
Any help is appreciated!

Re: Applying for Citizenship with Marijuana Misdemeanor
The law says this:
http://www.ins.gov/graphics/services/natz/general.htm
"Generally, an applicant must show that he or she has been a person of good
moral character for the statutory period (typically five years or three
years if married to a U.S. citizen or one year for Armed Forces expedite)
prior to filing for naturalization."
"A person also cannot be found to be a person of good moral character if
during the last five years he or she: "
"has committed and been convicted of any controlled substance law, except
for a single offense of simple possession of 30 grams or less of marijuana "
So, exactly how much pot did you have when you got busted? If it's less
than 30 grams, you are OK. If it's more, you will not be eligible for
naturalization.

Exactly 2.5 grams of kind bud! The cop even commented positively on its high

once I get money coming my way! Thank you very much for your help kind sir!

You're OK under the law but they can stil deny you. I'd be cautious
still and make sure you have all paperwork regarding that arrest and
conviction.

We in the United States have enough pot heads.
