Default Announcement and Question...all in one

Hey there folks,

First off the announcement: As of 5:36 PM EST November 3rd and I'm the
proud father of a new baby boy! :-) Michael and his mother are doing fine
and my little boy is already figuring out who in the family he can get the
most spoiling from LOL

Not for the question: The hospital tried to file for Tenncare (TN's version
of state level medicade for the uninsurable) for the baby. Now this is what
I wanted them to do since I can't get any sort of health insurance for my
wife or the baby. Well they called here today and said that they're going
to process the baby's case based on my wife and not on me. I told them that
my wife was a Canadian national and was still getting her AOS processed and
that they needed to process the baby's papers under my name. But they said
they since my wife has a TN photo ID card that they were still going to try
to process the baby's case under her. My question is this - Is this going
to cause a problem when my wife goes for her AOS interview?

After all my father and myself both are her sponsors, can the fact that
they processed the baby's insurance through my wife come back bad on my
wife? We've already told the hospital's insurance office that even if
Tenncare offers my wife insurance we were not going to take it, so the only
insurance will be in the baby's name and not my wife's or mine. Plus we're
not going to get Foodstamps or WIC, so I don't see a problem when the
interview comes due...but I may be wrong. As seeing as a lot of you have
helped me in the past or point me in the right direction I thought I would
ask you all.

Thanks,

Toby & Antoinette Woods

Hmmm he knows already he will be spoiled by Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles and strangers on the street ;-))))

Congratulations you three and a long and healthy life together.

As for your question, I don't have an answer; only congratulations.

Congrats. Any assistance your baby gets is irrelevant as far as the
affidavit of support goes but I guess you already know that by your
comments. You will have to contact your state to see if the coverage your
wife gets counts as means-tested benefits. Here's the INS's take:

"Currently, Federal means-tested public benefits include Food Stamps,
Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families (TANF), and the State Child Health Insurance Program (CHIP). States
and local jurisdictions may also designate certain of their programs as
means-tested public benefits.

The following types of programs are not counted as means-tested public
benefits: emergency Medicaid; short-term, non-cash emergency relief;
services provided under the National School Lunch and Child Nutrition Acts;
immunizations and testing and treatment for communicable diseases; student
assistance under the Higher Education Act and the Public Health Service Act;
certain forms of foster-care or adoption assistance under the Social
Security Act; Head Start programs; means-tested programs under the
Elementary and Secondary Education Act; and Job Training Partnership Act
programs."
