I've noticed that about cops here. Built like brick outhouses. The ones I saw at a trade show in TO recently were plain scary. Slab-like and armed to the teeth.

yep, can't investigate for sh*t though. they seem here to be an enforcement tool at uniform level, hence constantly lifting big heavy things and drinking lots of stuff made out of powder. if you want to actually catch proper bad people, its the detective route.

i find timmies completely hit and miss. i am not really slagging them off before people arrive outside my house with pitchforks and burning things. its just that sometimes they can be pleasant, sometimes indifferent, sometimes really really bad, is this not the worst kind of customer service, where you never know what you are going to get from one place to the next.
Just the other day i had this conversation:
timmies: what
me: hi i'd like a single cream, double sugar, large to go please.
timmies: single cream
me: yes please
timmies: you only want single cream. (had the feeling at this point she wanted to add f@*king weirdo, why can't you have a double double like us normal canadians. but resisted)
me: er yes, (feeling slightly intimidated even though i was working and heavily armed)
timmies: you paying by card!!!!
me: < trys to take back card but too late> er yes
timmies: hhrrrummmpph, swipe it then
me: ok
timmies: uurrrghgh not worked, swipe it again, look at the queue can you not hurry up
me: oh erm sorry
timmies: oh just take it, take it, pay me later, next.
at this point i left. came back later on and paid cash.

The ones I saw weren't there to investigate anything. The role was more along the lines of "look, but don't even think about trying anything funny". I think they were chosen specifically to be a bit intimidating.

that appears to be the general line, that and have a big gun, and a shotgun, and another big gun, and a taser. you get the idea.

On another note, I've noticed that the Gatineau cops have holsters that look rather like sealed boxes, as opposed to leather thingies. Any idea what that's all about?
Maybe they just like to be different. The males cops have been known to report for duty in skirts, so anything is possible.

I have never had a problem with Canada Post in the 45 years I've lived in Canada.
Just last Friday got a letter that was posted the previous day, that's pretty damned good service I'd say.
