Re: World Cup

Now a really fancy way of doing it would be to award the odds (from a reputable bookies website) as points. So, if the odds for a draw of 1-1 was 3/1, anyone picking 1-1 would get 3 points.

But, that's the problem, if you get someone like me to do this job (not that I have the time right now), the functions would be overly complicated, likely favour me and I would somehow win by a rather unfathomable margin.

Ah, I was just going to PM you. You're just the person we need to set up an Excel sheet or something far more complicated to keep track of this for a month.

1 point correct result, 3 points correct score, OK?

F*** me, it's bleeding simple.

I'd have thought a software genius like yourself could automate the whole thing anyway.

I'm retired. Cured. People even call me "normal" now. I don't really want to go back to the cave

So you're just too bloody lazy these days?

Greenhill Jun 11th 2010 1:28 pm

Re: World Cup

I suppose "lazy" is a semi-accurate term (perhaps not my first choice of word, though).

I'm sure it could be done with relative ease, if everyone could be trusted to lay out their predictions in a very exact manner (and with no spelling mistakes).

For example:

novocastrian england 1 usa 1
novocastrian southkorea 0 greece 1

Not that I'm saying I'll do it, of course, I can't say I'll have the time to keep up and make sure it's accurate. If I get the chance over the weekend I'll take a look at excel on the laptop (I can't see the bloody thing on this screen) and see if I can spec something out.

Just make your own predictions smartass.

I'll have the Koreans to take the Greeks 1-0.

Argentina 2- Nigeria 1

England 3 USA 1

The last two were previously mentioned. The other games were an oversite.

If anyone else wants to play Novo's predict-the-score game, reply to this post, replace the *** with your username (for ALL matches!), change the scores to your prediction and submit the reply...

*** KoreaRepublic 0 Greece 0
*** Argentina 0 Nigeria 0
*** England 0 USA 0

I'll post up tomorrows games in a similar format after the matches today, along with the current standings.
