I wouldn't say I am enjoying the games so much as participating in the prediction game, which is something I like doing in all sports. I still find the game itself very dull and seriously lacking excitement. The product on display will do nothing to promote the sport in NA. The hype is about the event and not the sport. Maybe I would a feel bit different if Canada was playing, at least I would have an actual team to cheer for (outside of the commonwealth and the USA), but the game needs to be more open IMO. All the stereotypes are showing their colours so far. Now that the game with the USA is over I hope England or Germany wins it.

Really? Wasn't raised with football either but I find it a pretty easy game to follow. The excitement depends on the teams...just like hockey really. IMO it's the simplicity that's made it so popular (and that you don't have to spend huge $$$ on gear to play it, unlike iced hockey).

I was hoping a few more would play. Do you think we should restart it when the knockout phase begins (so others can join in with a fresh start?)

Is anyone else interested in joining in??

I'm in Toronto and the World Cup is much bigger here than the Winter Olympics was.

Every other car has a flag attached and plenty of bars have world cup flags and advertise games.

Hoops Sports Bar where I watched England was jam packed.

The World Cup is the biggest sporting event I have ever witnessed in Toronto.

Your theory may hold true in the United States but they probably waste ther weekends watching very dull events such as NASCAR. I think this has more to do with the fact that in the United States they only see as far as their own noses rather than the game needs to be anymore open.

North American's just aren't globally aware.

It will be good if others come onboard.

After the last match each day, I post a list of the matches (for the next day) in this thread. All you have to do is reply to that post (replace each '*' with your username) and add in your score predictions.

So long as you're sober enough to spell your username correctly, you'll do fine

What does not liking a sport have to do with being globally aware? Is it a case of many others like it so you have to? Cliff jumping, etc? In Toronto it is big because the foreigners (ei you) and other recent immigrants cheer for the country they came from or identity their ancestry with. It has more to do with the event. The sport is as dull as a rusty razor as far a I am concerned. Fun to have everyone together though.

Something like the use of tu and vous in French. When written or spoken formally it is always family name first, then given name.

Lord Vader does have a point. Most of the games I've seen have been deadly dull if you don't have an interest in the result.
