I don't doubt it. They still need to pay bills though.

So? About what?

Didn't you read the facts about several BC ski resorts being sold/in receivership/seeking new ownership? Seem like facts to me.

What's my profession got to do with ski resorts being in trouble financially? I have just responded to some posts you made about how wonderful empty ski slopes are by offering a counter opinion.

Nobody mentioned resorts needing to become global giants. Just financially viable, that's all. Plenty of evidence some aren't.

So of the resorts I specifically mentioned which ones cannot pay the bills and are not financially viable? Name them and provide the evidence to back up what you are saying.

You seem to be arguing with yourself.

Of the resorts you mentioned, I commented on how one was being proactive developing summer programs and one had hired a new marketing director to help focus the business. I didn't suggest or insinuate that any of those had financial issues, I talked specifically about where insolvency or re-financing was/has been taking place.

Having said that, even Canada's 3rd largest ski resort, Sun Peaks, has financial challenges - if you care to read their Sustainability Development Action Plan, you'd see that despite significant development and expansion over recent years (including year-on-year season's pass sales growth, and 26% growth between 2003-2012 in winter revenue per visitor), economic sustainability still requires careful planning.

In 2011-'12 Sun Peaks room rate occupancy stood at 30% as a year round average, with a high of 15,000 visitors using hotel rooms at any one time. The theoretical yearly break-even occupancy rate required is over 48%. Are you going to tell me this is a healthy situation, and empty ski runs are just fine with you?

Edmuncate yourself - source:

Whether or not this economic model is directly applicable to other resorts is irrelevant. The facts, as you seem so keen on acquiring, are that several resorts are/have been suffering.

I will ask the same question again. So of the resorts I specifically mentioned which ones cannot pay the bills and are not financially viable? Name them and provide the evidence to back up what you are saying. Don't skirt around the question this time by providing a business development plan which almost all businesses have. Another point as well, a business can have all the revenue in the world but if the margins are low it won't matter. Many businesses fall into the trap of chasing revenue when they should be looking at efficiency.

You're not listening Jossie. You're creating an argument with yourself, for what purpose I don't know.

I will repeat the same response, perhaps it'll sink in this time:

Of the resorts you specifically mentioned.....I didn't suggest or insinuate that any of those had financial issues, I talked specifically about where insolvency or re-financing was/has been taking place.

I've given you detailed financial information about one of them that clearly indicates break even points are being looked at as an issue to resolve. That's hardly skirting around the issue.

I guess you know better than the multi-national corporation that owns Sun Peaks wrt their business model.

Hey you two, come on to the "UK Food to Canada" thread...someone's suggesting launching Iceland (or frozen food) in Canada. It's almost a winter sport, innit?
