St John's is catching it now, they've declared a state of emergency.

It's quite something. Started around 8 hours ago and we've already had 45cm of snow. Winds really ramping up now &, if some forecasts are to be believed, we're only half way through the snowfall.
States of Emergency - so instructions for all business to close and residents to remain in their homes - in St John's and surrounding towns. Provincial plows off the roads although the town I live in is still plowing as one went down our street half an hour ago. I've had to dig the doorways out twice and furnace vent once. I'll be doing that again before long thats for sure.
Worst storm I've seen in 15 years living here.

I'm guessing that assuming the power is on, Netflix is getting a surge in NL. Hopefully your furnace vent is a reasonable height above the ground.

Ahh tractors and graders it seems they use, like Edmonton.

I think here (and other places) use the dump truck style as they can plow & salt/brine at the same time, the plow style Vancouver has is used in many places in the US as well.

Snowed a tiny bit last night and the street was interesting outside, one side was covered in snow the other bare as can be, was an interesting sight.

We have all kinds of plows in Regina, and the annual snow removal budget is millions of dollars. Maybe 4 or 5 years ago we piled it up so high it didn't all melt before the next winter. We could use some of that this year as the water table is low.

Looks like Vancouver budgets roughly $4 million a year for snow removal, Richmond next door is around $1 million.

These satellite pictures are wild; it's a big wind up punch straight into the Maritimes. One fellow clocked the wind at 160kmh, so exceeded expectations.
"Wind gusts of up to 130 km/h were expected along certain parts of the coast, and maximum wave heights of 9 to 12 metres could also be expected, the agency said."

Our more typical weather is returning, I do hope the sun can make an appearance though, seems like a fair amount of rainy days in the forecast.
