Winter 2019/20 It's here

It's official. The 24hr snow line on the weather network weekly forecasts just started appearing today.

It says 5cm for next Friday.

I hope we get snow this year. The local north shore mountains don't even have any yet.

...move in my direction and it won’t be an ‘if’ but a ‘when’ question. It barrels down on us with no hesitation, and there is nothing pleasant, romantic or even vaguely Chocolate Boxy about it, it is a relentless horrible killer, until at least next April we are guaranteed an alternative lifestyle that I have realized has shaped the minds of East Coasters. They look out for each other and accommodate each other’s foibles because this climate is so terribly atrocious. It’s an endure rather than enjoy scenario here, and I’m not looking forward to it.

Ontario already had some of that 4 letter word stuff - though thankfully not where I am (it wasn't that far away though)! :(

Re: Winter 2019/20 It's here

We've already had snow in BC. I think the earliest fall was in mid-late August, in the north-east of the province.

We have snow reports regularly now on the TV weather reports ......... but it is all in the Interior and the north, mountain passes getting snow most nights in the last week.

The coast mountains might be getting something in the next week as the high pressure ridge over us is on its way out.

We have snow. Not enough to stop the tractor but it has four wheel drive and an ultra low gear range.

Re: Winter 2019/20 It's here

We've had snow of and on for a few weeks now. It was quite slippery out there this morning, there was a Mustang gingerly navigating the roundabout and staying motionless at the lights. I had the Exploder with studded tires and still struggled to get round the second roundabout. OH had the TT, to do an oil change, he said it stuck to the road like glue but he was careful approaching the known dodgy curve as he didn't want to call me if he put it in the ditch lol. Oh yay, for winter driving.

that means a month closer to spring! We have been lucky so far, especially compared to last winter! Let's hope mother nature doesn't go mental now.

Truck and car changed over to snow tires, snow blowers serviced and run up, 4 wheeler mounted with plow blade, snow shovels dug out from under deck and driveway markers go out tomorrow.....I hate feecking snow, but bring it on.....

Re: Winter 2019/20 It's here

It properly snowed! Winter is officially in Red Deer. So far so good in the TT, OH did ok with his Lincoln Town car, even with studded tyres he struggled uphill. 1st year in about 6 for me without studded, but I do have winters. Still learning what the TT will and won't do in the snow and ice.

Yep, got a dusting yesterday here in London, but got a reasonable dump last night, some 25cm. I had to laugh at the line up around every bay of the local Mr Lube to have their winter tyres put on. I did mine a week ago as the forecast was pretty obvious - feeling pretty smug about now!!

Cloudy. Rain is a coming.

Freezing rain is coming...it’s that that causes all the problems and brings down power lines. Even so I’m glad to be in NB today and not AB where I believe the temperatures are unusual...even for Canada.

Nothing unusual about the temperature today in my part of Alberta.

We've had snow on the ground for a week. Just an inch or so but it hasn't melted. No new snow last night so I suppose it's coming today.

Stuck tractor trailer spinning wheels on a slight slope here. Needs someone in a manual Mustang to come and pull it up.

It has been snowing steadily here most of the day. Enough to shovel not enough to start the snow blower. Wet heavy snow.

I live in the Windsor area and usually manage to get out of Dodge before the snow starts.

First time I've seen a heavy snow in 5 years.

If it had only waited until Thursday, I would have been long gone.

Wednesday morning :-

Windsor to Toronto...Toronto to Panama City...Panama City to David Panama...A one hour drive to Gariche where the last I looked it was 28C with showers.

Back in 5 months, it bloody well better have melted by then.

Compared with New Brunswick winters it's a picnic down here. Say hello to dodgy Dave in Panama for me 😁

The only one who might fit that description is "Cowboy Dave" in Boquete

Warnings

8:00 PM PST Monday 11 November 2019
Snowfall warning in effect for:
  • South Thompson
Snowfall with total amounts of 10 to 15 cm is expected.

A Pacific frontal system is giving precipitation to the interior. Light snow or rain this evening over Shuswap and the South and North Thompson regions will become snow heavy at times overnight. The snow is expected to change to a few rain showers tomorrow afternoon as temperatures rise. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 15 cm can be expected with the highest amounts over higher terrain for South Thompson and Shuswap.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #BCStorm.

Wind in the wrong direction overnight so hairdryer needed to open the back door to let the dog out. She didn't want to go despite being crammed into her fleece coat. There's enough drifted snow that I'll have to blow to get out of the driveway. Only another eleven months of it.

We've had that awful freezing rain stuff. Don't like it.

Re: Winter 2019/20 It's here

I shovelled on Tuesday morning. There wasn't quite enough to justify getting the machine out, but it was still hard on the snow-shovelling muscles that hadn't had a workout since last March... about 15cm or so of quite light fluffy snow.

Winter tyres went on last weekend. The tranquil suburban peace was shattered on Sunday afternoon by the sound of small-volume air compressors and battery-powered impact wrenches as half a dozen neighbours all had vehicles up on jacks on the driveways. One advantage of living in some people's vision of hellish suburbia is that the standard-issue 2-car garage provides enough room to store the off-season tyres on their rims; Canadian Tire do a good line in wall-mounted tyre racks for just the purpose. Seeing the massed ranks of tyre-changing driveway mechanics is almost as amusing as the massed ranks of snowblower operators who appear early in the morning on work days when there's been a decent snowfall overnight. Well, when I say "amusing," that amusement wears a little thin by mid-February.

Nice sunny day. 9 degrees currently. Still no snow on the local mountains on the north shore.

I still haven't got me tyres on yet. I plan on changing them over this weekend and then it's guaranteed to not snow until the end of December..

I finally got me tyres on yesterday. Just in time for the cold...https://weather.gc.ca/warnings/repor...0502ws1373cwvr
