I usually have a window open slightly, they keep the hallways of the building like 27 and hot air flows in under the door and our unit stays 20-22 most of the winter without us turning the heat on....

The forecast has been revised, no snow in the forecast at the moment, and appears it will be warmer then Environment Canada originally forecast coldest overnight is only expected to be -3.

I am good til about -15 to -20 then I start to get annoyed with the cold.

My Wife finally cracked last night and closed our two bedroom windows before going to bed. It was -13c outside and felt like +13c in our bedroom.

My wife is always cold, so its a fight at times as I am always hot.

Its the lack of humidity though that I hate, my throat and nose is hating it. 27% inside right now, I am boiling some water on the stove as doing so raises it for a bit, yesterday at the airport average humidity level was 31% which apparently broke a record.

Oh, so that's where NB snow has been falling. :sneaky:
Apart from a couple of weeks ago, with that early snowfall, it's just been wet here with the odd dusting. Almost like Bristol.

Plenty of time for it to change though.

Not changing Bristol...it’s going to be a bit more like Bristol!

It sounds like water in the amounts that our friends in Vancouver normally get...along with horrifically strong gusting winds...but no snow :thumbup:

It doesn’t sound like fun is heading in our direction though:unsure:

It's -14 now, but tomorrow morning it will be -30, so I should revel in the -14 while I can. We had so much nice weather here I can't complain, and we need the cold if we're going to drive on the ice for fishing by Christmas.

Anything below -15c feels the same to me. In other words, brass monkey weather and stay indoors.

I tend to agree - in fact 10 below can seem warm in comparison and I've done a quick snow clearance in slippers and T-Shirt in that. But there's a big difference in -15 and -25 when you're standing at a bus stop.

I instigated a 15/15 rule for cycling a few years ago. 15 minutes was the maximum cycling time at -15 and colder than -15 I wouldn't cycle.

Pretty much the same, -30 is cold, and -15 is cold, can't really tell much difference between the 2.

Now with heat I always feel more of a difference 30C feels cool if you have spent a few days at 40C-45C

Fairly nice day in Vancouver 9C and some sun, rain coming back tomorrow.

Had a couple of days last week where no heating was needed. Same again today.
Put Christmas tree up. Not sure that's been up with ho heating before.

Really rather weird altogether Bristol...but I’m Not Complaining! It’s far too hot in the house for heating, and we went for a walk with the dog this afternoon and we have NO snow in the garden or park...it just feels odd...this is a mental fight that one readies oneself for...and now the fight has gone away :boxing:

Not looking good for a snowy Christmas this year.

Re: Winter 2019/20 It's here

It's hard here to predict snow, every year varies, and some we get none or very little, I think 2008 was the only white Christmas I had in BC, and it did snow in 2012 when I was in Ontario, I don't think any of the other years had snow, but can't say for sure.

There were some heavy rain drops for a bit earlier, slushy not quite rain not quite snow, but melted on contact with anything.

It did snow in Squamish today though, about 55 minutes away from Vancouver.

Lots of snow here. Multiple road closures due to collisions between home and work. The power is still on though, it's quite unusual to have electricity supplied consistently this late in the year.

Probably wise.

I only drove from the coast to interior once in the winter, and never again, it wasn't even a horrible day, but the roads were still a mess, interior is a no go for me in winter.

Yes a good decision. My VW Golf has good tires, but for that amount of snow I'd like to be in an SUV with 4x4

So looks like east, west an prairies are getting snow....no such luck in southern Ontario..... it seems its no longer a good place to own a snowmobile.... been a terrible "winter" here so far. We have some temporary cold for 24 hours before heading back to plus 8 again!! How ridiculous!! :(

We're about to get down to -17 without it being the wind-chill that takes us there.

That's the old forecast; we'll have -30 lows in a few days. It's normal, I just go out and plug in a few hours before starting up.

We've apparently had 1/3rd of our annual snowfall in the couple of weeks since 23rd Dec. It's certainly been rather snowy - first time in 15 years I've had to snow clear on Christmas Day itself.
Currently blowing a gale outside with -10C so a hefty wind-chill. The dogs walk this evening was a brisk one!

Re: Winter 2019/20 It's here

Bit of a mixed bag possible here tonight and into tomorrow according to Environment Canada rain and snow in the mix, current 4 overnight low is expected to be 1.

Tonight Cloudy. Snow mixed with rain beginning late this evening. Snowfall amount 2 to 4 cm. Becoming windy near midnight. Low plus 1.

Fri, 10 Jan Snow at times heavy mixed with rain changing to rain near noon. Snowfall amount 5 to 10 cm. Rainfall amount 20 mm. Wind southeast 40 km/h except gusting to 70 near the water in the morning and early in the afternoon. High plus 4. Night Rain. Amount 10 to 15 mm. Windy in the evening. Temperature steady near plus 3.

In 2 or 3 hours I should scoot out and plug the van in.
At some point this winter it will be 10 - 15 degrees colder, it's a fact of life on the prairies.

Well upside are those cold but sunny days.

Light rain currently, no sign of snow yet.

Re: Winter 2019/20 It's here

We've not had a great deal of snow so far. I'm not going to get carried away because I remember a few years ago we'd had nothing by Christmas and then we had the all time record post-Christmas snowfall and it wasn't far short of the all time record for the whole of winter.

But if the predicted amounts of snowfall prove to be accurate, come next Thursday when we have 15-20cm predicted, we will have seen just under 50cms for December through to Jan 16th.
Normally we'd have 118cm fall in these two months. So we'd need about another 70cm in the last two weeks of January to be "normal" and hopefully we won't. :fingerscrossed:

Our part of the city got about 1 cm of snow .......... it started at around 3 am, and was mixed rain and snow, with heavy snow at times, until around noon.

There is still snow on the grass and some sidewalks, but slush on the roads.

Really crazy sometimes all the micro climates in Vancouver, over here in our area of East Vancouver it was a wet snow around 3am, but wasn't sticking, by 8am the little bit on the grass outside was gone, and been just rain with a few snow flakes at times that don't stick.

2 winters ago when I was still working at the airport it rained all day, but wasn't that cold, rode my scooter home, and up Cambie from Cambie and 64th there was snow it was like instantly went from rain to snow, and by 41st it wasn't even raining and the streets were dry and no sign of snow at all. It was like a winter wonderland for 20 blocks...lol

The first of the season and what a mess it caused. While it didn't stick on the roads I had to cancel my golf round this afternoon. Winter's really here. :(

I saw a quote from one of Environment Canada's senior meteorologists based here in Vancouver the other day. He said that Vancouver was the hardest place to forecast snow because of all the micro-climates, the water, the hills and the mountains!

scrubbedexpat091 Jan 10th 2020 3:30 pm

Re: Winter 2019/20 It's here

San Diego similiar so many micro climates but snow is pretty isolated to above 1000 foot elevation and usually higher so bulk of they area doesnt get snow where most people live although it has snowed on the coast before but that is very very rare.

They get more extremes in temp though in their micro climates can be 20 on the coast and 35+ inland and deserts all within 90 minute drive of downtown.

Rain is hard to forecast there, SD is so far south they have a difficult time forecasting how far south storms will drop.

SD is in the spot of being too far south for lots of winter storms and too far north to get much of the tropical storms in the summer although there are some summer pop up storms if conditions are there for it.
