Winter 2016-17
 

Until now all we had was the odd dusting.

We just had heavy wet snow. A few short power cuts around town.

I think it's the biggest 'first' snowfall we ever had. :( I'm not even going to try to clear the boulders at the end of the drive.

Fortunately these things are not a sign of what's to come.

How do people know stuff like that?

I've no idea what the technical terms are but I'm sure I once read something that suggested where we are is served by two something or others and that if one was out we might still get power from the other.

We've got off so lightly in all our time here, compared to some, that it sounds believable.

Wouldn't that be from their own generator?

They have some snow mixed with rain in the forecast for next week, although I doubt it will snow.

This rain this winter is getting on my tits but at least it's snowed in the local mountains, which is good, as I just bought a new pair of skis. :thumbup:

The rain has been obnoxious, above average for even this area from what I have read.

Almost the entire month of October and Nov has seen rain, I almost forget what the sun looks like...lol

You can keep your grey skies and persistent pissing down rain and just above zero temperatures and little if any snow in winter Im sort of OK with bright blue skies, snow and minus 30C temperatures as its a dry cold :lol:

I hope some cowboy driving a Ford F150 with Alberta plates hits a puddle in the road and soaks you as you walk along drinking your chai latte;)

Rain sloshing down on Vancouver Island for two months now. I think we've had only six days when it didn't rain. Most days, it isn't a question of if it's going to rain but when the wind will get up and the water will come down. We had a blink of sun yesterday and my dog started barking at it - he is very suspicious of anything unfamiliar.

When I moved here (as in current residence), I was told multiple times by multiple people that as it's on the same street as the hospital, the street is #1 priority for fast reconnection when power outages occur. That turned out to be an urban legend, duh ;).

AFAIK, the powers-that-be are able to use the something-or-others to switch power/get as many people back on grid as possible as fast as possible, regardless of proximity to McD... :sneaky:

It's been quite mild here, for Qc values of "mild", so far this winter. Pissing down with rain ATM, & warm enough to have melted ice on stairs.
