I am not aware of many indiividuals living that height above the ground in mainland UK either, and these are not for domestic electricity consumption.

The Irish government has a lot to answer for in terms of permitting this to get this far, no dispute, so there's lots of grubby skullduggery afoot.

Oh, that was just a bit of sarcasm used to explain why high turbine towers are a good idea. The real reason of course that wind-speeds are much higher there whether in Ireland or Swaziland.

You're missing the point on at least two levels: firstly the thread is about the good and the bad of wind power not UK/Eire politics; second the UK most certainly couldn't just plonk them down there without the consent of the Irish government. I'm assuming you're Irish so talk to your (former?) government.

The original post is "Wind farms, pros and cons, love or hate" (quite a subjective topic) and my original post was relevant to the question, and I did qualify it as such. I also stated clearly that my point was not about UK/Irish politics, but it's hard to separate them here when the scenario I have described has recently been revealed.

I am not interested in having a spat with you Novo, I always enjoy your posts, but please don't simply dismiss my post as irrelevant and missing the point, as there is a very specific angle to it.

Most likely I would say, but still completely unpalatable. Ireland seems to be on the brink of resuming more normalised international borrowing, but whether or not this "deal" was linked to emergency lending a few years ago, and whether it will now be unstoppable, I don't know.

Anyway, I'm done ranting here, thank you all for replying, I know the Irish government has a lot to answer for, I won't keep on about it now. Cheers

.

Well looking at the numbers it’s clearly Irish politics to invest in wind energy, given how much domestic energy is generated that way..(14%?) it doesn’t surprise me that they’d add more capacity with a side line of selling excess power onto the next available grid system..

and that the part of the UK might turn out to be the northern part of the same island??
