Just because a country is developed, doesn't mean the whole country is equal. And developed doesn't always mean good either.
In the UK, the standard of living in the South East and Aberdeen is far better than much of the rest of the country. Many people live in relative poverty. I live in the north of England, in a small village. There is no way I could afford to move to the south east and buy a house, in a nice area. For me, moving to Canada means that I can afford a house near a good school and close to a good university, for my kids. We will also be able to take advantage of a lot of winter and summer sports, for a reasonable price. Another reason I want to move, is to give my kids the confidence to do the same when they are older and take advantage of opportunities available to them. Where I live now, many of the kids leave school at 16 and take some crappy dead end job. My daughter has only just started her second year at secondary school and already, she seems less ambitious and confident than when she started there. Example... parking at a shopping centre in Stockport for the day £1.20. Parking in London at Westfields for the day £7 Schools and community spirit are also far better in Stockport than in London where community spirit is non existant. This was a big factor for me for moving to Vancouver as I get the community spirit back. I have only been here a week but I found recently that people here say Thank you to the bus driver when they get off the bus. I love that. Anyway, I think I may have hijacked a thread here so I am off. Time for breakfast. |

That aint really poverty though ...I think that was the OPs point, poverty is a very relative thing and 90% of the worlds population would gladly swap with any one of us I suspect. We know where our next meal is coming from, we have clean water to drink etc.
I can sympathise with the OP and I can understand why they would want to swap with us. But that doesn't make me feel guilty for wanting a better life for my family. We get few immigrants coming to live where I live. If the OP had the choice, I suspect he would pick another part of the UK. |

Not sure that I agree but then I don't know where you live. I have lived in London for the last five years before moving to Vancouver. Before that I was born and raised in Stockport nr Manchester. I think that the standard of living is far better there that down in London. Yes the house prices are rediculously expensive but you get far less for your money. It also goes for everything else that you get far less for your money.

I don't live in Stockport - there's no comparison. We don't even have a Uni within 50 miles of where I live.
As I clearly said in my reply, I don't know where you live but can only comment on my findings. |

Re: Why Why???????
I cant say that Im very impressed that many of you think its OK to take the piss out of someone simply because their post was not in the queens best english.
Their English was a hell of a lot better than any of my foreign language skills, and I would suggest that this rather biggoted picking on someone based on that in my mind reflects on you far more than it does on them.:frown: |

Definitely not Mogadishu but I think you get the point. And sure felt like poverty to me, having to live in a bed sit in Ardwick and primary sustenance was egg on toast. I had about 20 quid a week to live on after rent and bills. Thanks Maggie:thumbdown: |
