Don't get domestic...Gas may be going up to $1.40 a litre in the summer so get something more fuel economic.

I am not a fan of domestic trucks. If you want a full size, take a look at the Nissan Titan or the Toyota Tundra. For compact pick up the Toyota Tacoma or the Nissan Frontier. We have Ford & Toyota, love the Toyota, the Ford cost me a transmission rebuild last year, a month out of warranty.

Whereas I'd go for the F150. But as IainK says what you really want is a friend who owns a truck so you can borrow it when you need it. In our case, that friend has a Ram!

Neither.

If you must get a truck, then either a Silverado/Sierra or a Tundra is your best bet for a full size pickup. You dont see a lot of Nissans around for some reason?

Both are miles ahead of the Ford and Dodge in terms of quality.

But think aobut whether your really need a truck, or if you really need a full size one. Gas is not going to get any cheaper, and if you arent going to be towing or loading it up, then the ride can be pretty choppy a best, never mind the environmental consequences.

I've got an '08 Titan. Awesome truck, way ahead of the Domestics. Lots of them around here too.

The problem with the Nissan and Toyota is that neither of them are full sized in terms of towing capacity. The American rule of thumb is that to pull a box with two horses you need 10,000lbs of capacity and that means a domestic truck.

Tundra with the 5.7 V8 will tow 10,000lbs according to http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObje...f4x4reg%2ehtml

I see that the Ford is now over the 10,000lb figure, Dodge is still 9100lb, Nissan is 9800lb. When I got the Nissan it had the highest rating of all the 1/2 tons.

The Toyota Tundra 5.7 V8 is 10,800lbs towing capacity. Tacoma TRD at 6500lbs will tow a single horse trailer. The Nissan Titan is 9,500lbs depending on the model. Did not see the OP mention he was towing a trailer though. Toyota tends to be a bit lighter on gas than Nissan.

Very unhappy with our Ford truck, never buy one again. The Toyota is excellent.

The import trucks are really starting to give the Domestics a beating. If they don't raise their game they'll be going the same way as the North American car market.
