Not sure whether you'll be in London much, but to my knowledge it's still littered with souvenir shops that popped up around the time of the Jubilee/Olympics, so there's more than enough "tat" in there to fulfil your needs! If you get off the underground at Piccalilli and walk towards Leicester square, there's a huge one right next to the Trocadero. Everything is emblazoned with either the Union Jack or the faces of the royal family.
I find chocolate or boxes of biscuits usually go down a treat, no matter where you went or whether they have any relevance to the location.

Dr Who stuff?
China, mugs, Royal Worcester seems to be popular here.
A dart board, proper darts, pewter beer tankards, do pubs still do those beer towels? Shove ha'penny games. Skittles. British monopoly, tea towels, tea cosies, spice mixes, some fiendish vindaloo spice kits.

Has anyone mentioned DowntonAbbey blu-ray/dvd boxset yet? They seem to love that show here

Some great suggestions thanks all.
The family is not one for "fine china" - or anything posh stuff with a union jack on it would get bundled in the back of a cupboard never to be seen again.
I'm gonna definitely look for food stuffs for the inlaws and ask on my FB wall to my Canadian friends for ideas too!
Excited me - now finished work for 2 weeks - and am in full time holiday mode

All that Union Jack gear is almost all Made in China. If you want a 'British' souvenir your best bet is some sort of foodstuff that you can't get here and that you're allowed to bring through customs, fudge, toffee or stilton cheese which is made about 45 minutes from where you are.
As other posters have said Downton Abbey, Union Jack gear that is Made in the UK, you can't go wrong with a scarf !!!!
Not that I'm biased or anything

What about stuff you can decorate their basements with - coasters, beer mats, beer towels, tea towels, Guinness and or other beer memorabilia, shot glasses, etc...
I like the London transport museum shop for some interesting tat.
The stuff in M and S that comes in posh tins like biccies, toffees usually go down well.
Any chance you could smuggle us a scotch egg and pork pie back?

doesn't bother me being sat next to someone who's either dribbling or snoring, because they will be sitting next to one too.
