The average Brit is not that far removed from the average north American these days. Unhealthy diets, junk food, no exercise, beer, rising obesity, diabetes, using the car at every opportunity.

Surprisingly (perhaps) the UK has the 3rd highest obesity rate (~23%, 2003 data) after the US and Mexico while Canada's rate is ~14%, ranked 11th.

Here are more up to date stats. The Canadian's have closed the gap somewhat over the years as have our Australian and Kiwi cousins who have been living large.
