I can't stand BBC journalism. The article fails to provide any meaningful insight into Canada, doesn't touch on any of the details of the big cities (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary etc.) and just commented on the usual political non-issues that barely have any effect on day to day life.

Goodness, there's a lot of awkward defensiveness in thse posts!!

It's a great article about Canada... fundamentally disjointed while trying to be all things to all men, with a rictus grin firmly in place.

I actually think now I was perhaps being a bit harsh with my original comment, as I see that this article is part of the "Canada Direct" series that BBC World is doing right now. While I don't think that one article is anything special in the context of the rest of the series it isn't quite so bad - there are other accompanying articles that cover more depth. I appreciate the BBC trying to shed light on Canada for the rest of the world like this.

It‘s a large and diverse country so understandably one article can‘t cover or explain it all. No doubt in subsequent installments the author will strive to convey the provincial close-mindedness of Ontarians, the paranoid xenophobia that goes hand in hand with prairie hospitality, and the dysfunctional city core drug culture that‘s been thriving in the big cities for decades as well as the unique hunger for trendiness that is Vanvouver‘s alone.. Third world living conditions on reserves may have to wait for another issue as well. He didn‘t touch on the cheese either. My friends come back from visiting family in Liverpool and they make it sound like Mogadishu......... one of the Vonnegut books has an explanation of a person‘s world view, in which he likens it to someone laying on their back looking at the sky through a piece of 1“ pipe. There‘s a lot of world and we can only see so much at a time. That off-topic enough for you Ann?

I was just trying to be a little sarcastic, how do I come across as naive? No offence, as usual. Are you referring to that analogy of Vonnegut‘s being outdated in the modern world of instant communication? I thought it was romantic but still somewhat valid.
