Any suggestions as to what do and not to do while there would be appreciated....beyond Big Ben and the Palace that is, ive been there and done that.

Get out of there for a few days and see the real England

Just watch out for the hooded chavs wielding weapons and swearing at old ladies, the streets filled with broken glass, the vast unemployed, and the dogs we here so much about on hear ;)

I'm jealous. It'll be great so enjoy

I agree. Other than a train to York for the chippy, hire a car and pop to the Wilshire country side (avebury?) or to the cotswolds through to stratford upon avon on the way to see your mum.

Pop to the Norfolk broads for a row in a boat, or to one of the world class racing circuits to watch some motorbike racing

Try not to stay too long down south otherwise it'll make you soft.

Enjoy your month in London, for cheap and good food try the O'Neills Irish pubs (Steak and Guinness pies, sausages and colcannon, fish and chips etc). I suppose your closest one would be near to The Palladium by Oxford Circus. I was born and raised in Vauxhall, near Waterloo. There is "The Cut" (Lowermarsh), market closeby and The Young Vic. I think The Cut still has a pie and mash shop. Avoid the pedestrian subways at The Elephant and Castle, lots of muggings. You will love the South Bank for a stroll along the Thames, take in a few shows while you are there.

The Lake District
The Cotswolds (as you say) Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in the Marsh combined with Stratford upon Avon
Warwick / Warwick Castle
York minster and York

to name a few.

Tatw modern.....where is that?

To the OP, didn't you ask about London? I don't know why some decided to start giving you ideas for outside London :sneaky: Anyhoo I'll start you off in the eastend

Liverpool street market on a Sunday, Bricklane any day of the week for the best Ruby in the country, Greenwich to visit the GMT observatory, the docklands, green street market, the ubiquitous London Eye, millennium bridge, planetarium, sherlock holmes museum, madame tussauds and london zoo accessed via baker street station

Says you, but at least it's where the whole country is being run from. Also if it's not all that, I ask why most end up there from outside London?

Perhaps they came to see the sights and never left

Just before we left for Canada I had to go to Wandsworth Town Hall to get a copy of our wedding certificate. I had to wait about an hour and there was no better place to wait than the pub next door. A couple of pints of Special later I had almost decided pack this emigration malarky in.

There is nothing to return for now.
