Yesterday I filled up my boat and truck, it cost $365. Carrying that amount of cash around, or having to find an ATM to get it for the purpose of buying fuel isn't very practical. Guessing how much fuel you need, then paying a cashier prior to filling up is also a PITA and never buys you exactly what you need. Gas companies need to raise pump limits to more realistic levels to make the pre-pay process far less of a hassle.

And just a reminder that when in the US you can use a Canadian credit card even though many stations require you to punch in the zip code of the billing address. Put in the three digits of your post code followed by two zeros, i.e 12300. It doesn't work every time but it does on most occasions. It's well worth a try.

Well....the "average person" doesn't fill up their "boat and truck" every day
