WARNING!

1 Attachment(s)
If you are an owner of a dog that belongs to a 'dangerous breed' like the bull terriers category and you also have a small child please take this as a warning.

Don't leave your dog with the child unattended under any circumstances.

Only a moment was enough for the following to happen.

Warning, those of a delicate disposition may find the picture disturbing.

Re: WARNING!

I had a Rottie and two rottie / GS cross' when my son was born. The rottie was the softest of them all, she adored him and i never had the slightest concern for either of them. That said I always maintain safety by never leaving my son alone with nay of my dogs, not because i dont trust the dog, -i dont trust the child not to do something to the dog to make it angry / snap. I heard of a case where a family dog, placid and loved by all turned on a child to the shock of the whole family. They had the dog put down of course and at the autopsy found a pencil sharpener stuffed in its ear!!! and they wondered why the dog turned.... so theres alot to be learned from teaching kids to respect the animals and not hurt them - i get quite angry when i hear people say " oh my dog is so good, the kids pull his ears and tail etc but he never gets angry" stop the damn kids from pulling its bloody tail!!!
The picture is fanastic and gave me a good giggle, a perfect example of how kids and animals can get along and that with most dogs its the way the family unit is run that dictates its temperament...

Am I the only person who thinks it a little odd that you would let your kid draw on the dog?

If you read it properly the dog and child were alone for a bit. I dont think the OP "let" the child do this.

If YOU read it properly, it is written to make you think the dog has attacked the child.

It's just not funny, whichever way you look at it.

It reminds me of those pictures on fuglyhorseoftheday where a toddler is walking under a foal; you just know that the next frame should be a of an ambulance. Drawing on the dog isn't safe for the child and isn't respectful of the dog.

Exactamundo. The next shot along of the dog one, is probably the dog chewing the boys ears off. Ooh ho ho I bet that makes for a funny shot. NOT.

I'm relieved to hear you have better taste in soft furnishing, I however must have very bad taste in jokes as I thought it was funny.

Re: WARNING!

I dunno - the dog doesnt look like he is in distress or upset about it - he looks quite laid back... not saying I condone drawing on the dog but kids do alot worse.. I thought the picture was quite funny, the kid obviously saw a nice white blank drawing space and off he went lol - im sure a quick bath of the dog and all would be back to normal
It does go back to my original post about not leaving dogs and kids alone the kid had been there a while for that amount of drawing to go on AND i get the feeling an adult has "helped" if you take a close look at the handiwork espcially round its face...

the pic did make me laugh, purely by the way the dog looks quite relaxed and totally unphased by the whole experience - its ok to laugh at things we dont always agree with - have you never laughed at something whilst thinking " ohhhh thats just wrong lol"

I'd agree that the dog doesn't look too upset. It was probably loving the attention. I wonder what would have happened if the kid had decided to stick the pen in its eye, or somewhere else.

Is it just me or is that the work of photoshop or some such doctoring?

The lines on the dogs nose don't see to flow with certain parts of the contour.

Re: WARNING!

Well, I thought it was funny....

Far too many people are far too paranoid about far too many things.

Apart from anything else what are the statistical odds that a pit bull raised as a family pet would do anything? One in a million? Longer? And the juxtaposition of the somber text with the funny picture is a well worn comedy cliche.

My wife had a pit bull pet growing up, she says it was a much nicer, safer pet that the damned yappy pomeranians that they also had. Pit bulls can undoubtedly be agressive, but socialisation and training goes a long way towards that, and most of their bad rep is media driven and due to people raising them to be aggressive if you ask her.

with such a strong dog  you never know and should never ever take that chance, so many owners regret will for the rest of their lives leaving their child alone with the family dog thinking that the dog is harmless and so good with the kids, some of the kids are no longer around....madness.

Re: WARNING!

I agree with Amy it's not funny. In fact if my dog suffered the same abuse from anyone whether a 2 year old or a 40 year old I would be very angry.

Is this how some look at 'a mans best friend' a toy to draw on?

I always feel bad for dogs as they only need to snap once before we kill them yet how many times have we snapped in our lives?

As Iain said it is extremly rare that a household dog will ever actually bite so it must be something about the owners lack of respect shown towards the dog.

What:huh: kids that have been killed by dogs over the last few decades is far higher than single figures.

As a percentage of owners? and compared to say, car accidents, how significant is the number? Next to nothing, very very far from "So many", and how many of those attacks were non put bull attacks anyway?

Maybe all dogs should be banned as pets, and kids banned from the streets and from being in cars as parents clearly are putting their children in harms way by driving them about.... Paranoia and media hysteria is what it is.

However, Lest we forget, this is the (allegedly) light hearted "Maple Leaf" sub forum of BE, not the "paint your dog" subforum of PutBullLovers.com.... I dont know why you are all getting in a lather about this, it was clearly intended as a joke, and has been doing the rounds by email anyway...Take it up with the people who run the internet!

you do not understand my post.
I did not say ban dogs I just said people should be aware when leaving small children alone with dogs like pit bull, rottweilers etc, a young child could easily upset a dog if left alone with it, would you leave a young infant alone with a pit bull even if you thought the dog was placid.

My irony and attempt to put this in context was clearly wasted.

To answer your question, If I had a dog I would teach the kids very early on not to mess with it regardless of breed, as we did with our cats. As I said earlier, I dont believe that a well adjusted socialised family pet pit bull or Rottie poses much more significant risk in the great scheme of things than any other breed. The chances of anything bad happening are insignificant compared to the risk of crossing the road and being hit by a drunk driver. Its nutters who train them to be aggressive and then dont take responsibility to keep them away from people who pose the risk...not responsible families keeping them as pets.

Jumping all over this JOKE on the grounds that its irresponsible in some way just leaves me short of appropriate adjectives. There is even a warning right there that "those of a delicate disposition may find the picture disturbing"
