From NY Times: For the Love of Money

For those who couldn't be assed reading the article, high earning WS kid who suddenly grows a conscience and sees the bloodsucking and insatiable side of his old hangout.

Honorable quotations:

'IN my last year on Wall Street my bonus was $3.6 million — and I was angry because it wasn’t big enough.'

'I generally think that if one is rich and believes they have “enough,” they are not a wealth addict. On Wall Street, in my experience, that sense of “enough” is rare. The money guy doing a job he complains about for yet another year so he can add $2 million to his $20 million bank account seems like an addict.'

Love the comments on that article. That last couple with 2 kids earning 200K and claim they have nothing left at the end of the month after spending 840 a month eating out, 1,000 a month on clothes, 400 a month on vitamins creams and lotions, oh yeah and 1,200 on the mortgage for their summerhouse. Somebody should start a charity for them maybe we can do a live aid concert and stuff. FFS!

Hahaha.

Did anybody here watch the Wolf of Wall Street yet?

Is it any good?

Not true.

Two-thirds of what my 2 bed, terraced house in Bristol went for paid for a 4 bedroom detached house on a double lot and a 1 bed/2 bed duplex. Both properties in the city.

Ah well, lucky you!

It is grimmer up north.

One early 1990s 3 bedroom detached house in Carlisle and one nice modern two bedroom apartment St. Annes on Sea plus a very large wad of cash will be exchanged for one 4 bedroom house in Langley area.

WHEN I get the UK properties sold. Recovery my arse, unless you are in SE England.

Until then, will be paying out $2100 per month in rent.

if true then that is horrific

FFS even at a junior entry level a bean-counter here makes as much as that in dollars

and currency parity is my bible as a dollar is, as far as i am concerned, same as sterling given the cost of living across the pond

so in retrospect i made the right decision when i got out some 51 years ago:)

I noted that too - interestlingly enough the CIMA annual salary survey gives a rather different result. I would assume that members have no need to make up their salaries: - average salary is 66k GBP + 6k bonus. Even part quals are averaging 34k.

Seriously doubt CA's and ACCA members earn less than that...
