No, have no interest in spain.

My old house was sold again about three years ago. Nothing added. The price it went for, even with the fall in the exchange rate, would still have bought the same two properties (we had them valued) with change and now that the exchange rate has recovered a bit it would still do the same thing and with even more change.

Yes, long ago, that's going on 9 years. A long time in economics.

Some actual figures for the debate.

Although I know in the UK there are a good half a dozen indexes who all measure prices in difference ways and the variants can be in the tens of thousands. I don't care enough for prices in Canada and just pay attention to neighborhoods I'm interested in.

But as stated, the net position is no material change.

The money from the same small, terraced, UK house still buys the same two larger, detached, properties here

The relevant subject was the statement that houses were more expensive than the UK. It was just an example that they needn't be.

I work for a major charity so yes I am lucky, I could not even do this work in Canada as they did not accept my qualifications.

Useless comparison targeted on one area of the UK and one not so sort after area of Canada.

No targeting. Just a personal experience to challenge the sweeping statement earlier.

It doesn't challenge it at all though.

I'm not saying they are right, but even if you have two averages where one is higher than the other it's still possible to pick individual data points that show the opposite.

Of course. But that's not what I did.

And now I'll stop there to avoid going over old ground again.

It's exactly what you did. It's what you always do when somebody says property is more expensive here.

Love the comments on that article. That last couple with 2 kids earning 200K and claim they have nothing left at the end of the month after spending 840 a month eating out, 1,000 a month on clothes, 400 a month on vitamins creams and lotions, oh yeah and 1,200 on the mortgage for their summerhouse. Somebody should start a charity for them maybe we can do a live aid concert and stuff. FFS!
