The staff nurse salary is not a starting wage, I was only on a grand more after 10yrs, although important to note I never had the chance to apply for a job with a band up so salary scale was capped, but them band 5 makes up the majority of the workforce..

The Canadian government's info is out of whack as they have really strange groupings for various careers. If you look through their occupational classifications you'll find yourself shaking your head wondering how in the hell two occupations can be grouped together when they have nothing at all to do with each other.

And the stats you linked to cover the entire country which puts them out of whack as well as people in a small town in the Maritimes will not earn the same as someone doing the same job in the GTA or the Vancouver area.

Conversely, I find that most things are cheaper in Canada, apart from a fairly limited list which includes bread, dairy products, alcohol and mobile phones.

Most other things that we buy range between the exchange rate equivalent and £1 = $1.

Property is more expensive in Canada, unless you are specifically comparing with SE England.

A recent HSBC study shows Canada as having the most unsustainable house prices in the world.

Depends on the job, for some jobs someone in Vancouver could very well be earning the same amount, especially in the low wage jobs.

That is how the surveys work they take an average of the whole country and for any comparison to be marginally fair it has to be a like with like.

What you say may well be accurate.

My experience is Toronto versus South East England and in my experience most consumer goods are cheaper in the UK.

Given that Ontario and South East England hold the bigger populated areas of the two countries I'd argue it has more weighting on any national statistic than sparsely populated areas or country towns.

But the reality is wages in Canada are in the majority of circumstances in synchronisation with wages in the UK if you are looking at the stats on the whole. Simply put for people on this forum to ludicrously proclaim statements like people in Canada earn more than 3 times people in the UK is simply not true and unbacked by any facts or statistics what so ever.
