Default Visa For Canadians going to Blighty

I am sure the US and CAD will return the favour to Brits and other EU folks coming over here.

OTTAWA -- The European Union doesn't expect to resolve its visa dispute with Canada by a Tuesday deadline, forcing it to trigger a process that could see Canadians forced to get visas to visit 26 EU countries.

The 28-country bloc sees no prospect of meeting the deadline to settle a dispute over a Canadian visa requirement for travellers from Romania and Bulgaria, EU sources told The Canadian Press on Friday.

Article says the UK and Ireland are exempt?

Seems the US and Canada don't agree that visa requirements be based on reciprocal agreements, which seems to be what the EU is demanding?

So what is eTA and ESTA that both Canada and the USA have for EU nationals?

There are 2 x countries the EU want to see these restrictions removed from Romania and Bulgaria. One needs to ask the question why are these 2 countries singled out. Don't expect an honest answer.

Honest answer from the EU or Canada and the US? ( I think the US has 4 countries on the list.)

Any chance the EU will ever be more tied together to where they will just have 1 passport for every country in the union?

In my lifetime I don't think there will ever be a one passport for the EU countries.
As for the honest answer would the EU accept the answer given by either Canada and the US.

Technically, I think it's under the Lisbon Treaty, a passport issued by any member state is a European Union passport, says so on the front.

These two countries were the last to join the EU, and the US is prolly afraid the citizens if allowed to enter the US, won't want to leave
