I truly feel for your family. I know I'd be distraught if it happened to me.

As an owner of a recently passed 15.5 English Cocker, a current 14 year old English Cocker and a 5 year old rescue schizoid Cocker- I do sympathize greatly and will keep you in my prayers.

Thanks everyone. I genuinely wasn't 'doing a Facebook' and looking for sympathy, just felt I needed to vent. Been trying to be the strong one in the household but it's very difficult.
Your comments are much appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I had a springer spaniel when I was younger so I know how special they are. I hope you find him soon.

Our Lab found some food laced with rat poison the day before our citizenship ceremony. The best and the worst of days.

As a dog owner and lover -so sorry to hear about yours going missing.
I have everything crossed for you all that he is just lost and someone finds him and calls you ASAP!

I once read that all spaniels are working dogs and if they get the scent of something they will probably follow it. I remember my King Charles Cavalier Spaniel got the scent of something one night and wandered off. I sat at the bottom of the stairs all night hoping she would come home...she came back with the milkman the following morning.

We've spent the last two days, 12 hours a day searching along the Trans Canada, but unfortunately there is so much forest out there and so many trails, it is a heartbreaking and upsetting process. Coupled with the fact that when you take a brief break, you feel guilty that you have sat down for a drink and wonder whether that is the moment when he would briefly appear again.
So basically every spare moment we are out there. It's frustrating today as I have had to go into work, somewhere I would rather not be at this time.
