A very sad day
Saturday evening our 10 year old springer spaniel went missing. We were about an hour away when we got the call from our daughter so by the time we got back he had been gone about an hour and a half.
He was spotted Sunday morning on the central divide of the Trans Canada but has not been seen since.
We did a 13 hour stint of searching on Sunday and again today, stretching the search area along the TC but to no avail.
It is very sad to say we have decided to call off the search and there is pretty much not a dry eye in the house, including myself.
Daughter blames herself as she was watching him when she let him out for a wee and he didn't come back when she called him.
Today we were at the point of hoping to see a body so at least that would give us that horrible word closure as as it stands you feel like you should be doing something. Having gone along both sides of the TC shouting his name you realize how much forest is out there. It's not a case of him coming across a house- there just aren't any for many miles.
We checked the post on the way back and have received our notices to appear for citizenship, but must admit neither of us are in a celebratory mood.
Jake will be sorely missed and I can only imagine the pain people go through when it's actually a child that goes missing and not a 10 year old family dog.
No sleep for two nights and crying which comes in waves, never thought I would be so affected.

I hope he comes back - obviously you‘re prepared for the worst but unless you know he‘s come to some misfortune, in the field of dogs gone missing 2 days is nothing. Keep posters on gas station bulletin boards in neighboring towns and hope for the best.

Sorry about the dog, but congratulations on finally getting to the end of the immigration road.
Is there a humaine society or local dog catcher who might have picked up the dog? Im guessing youve covered all those bases, lost dog ads etc etc...

Kijiji, SPCA Facebook page, lost pets page etc. Yeah I think most bases are covered but you do feel somewhat useless.

Friend of ours lots her dog in Vancouver a few weeks back. Somebody posted a "Dog Found" advert on Craigslist and Kijiji that she luckily stumbled upon a couple of days later. This was in the suburbs though, not out in the boonies.

I am so sorry and my heart goes out to you especially your kids. I had a Spinger for 17 years, wonderful dogs. The size of Canada really worries me, I am terrified of losing our dog, or the cats. We lost our present Cairn for three days not long ago as he leapt over the wall as there were fireworks close by, it was dreadful. I can only imagine how awful you feel.

That's so sad.. I hope you get some good news soon.. don't give up hope!
Have you posted on the various community forums and pet forums? Someone may have spotted your dog and picked it up and taken it to their 'home town' rather than leave it on the TCH.. it's worth contacting the surrounding towns too.
