Clarke, like her or not, ran a great campaign. She positioned herself as the champion of the blue collar worker who would fight to bring jobs to BC. Did you ever see her throughout the campaign when she was not wearing a hard hat and a hi-viz jacket? It boxed the NDP into the corner of being the party that wold not fight to bring jobs for ordinary people to BC.
Clarke was selling a vision for the future, hope in other words. Dix, in contrast, came across like a deer stuck in the headlights who did not have a plan at all. Other than not being a Liberal.
As Jsmth321 says, there were people who were natural NDP supporters who held their nose and voted Liberal. There were great swathes more who would have voted NDP but were simply not inspired enough to get off thier behinds and vote.

oh, the NDP ran a rotten campaign!
They seemed to think that the fact that they were so far ahead in the polls meant they didn't really have to do much.
They really were out-campaigned by Clarke, you can't fault her on that "blue collar image".
John Horgan has another 2 years to re-position the NDP into an acceptable position to those in this province who fear the "communist hordes" as Wacky Bennett and succeeding premiers have continually categorised the party.

Wow, this all sounds quite depressing. Anyway, 22K votes, but probably losing momentum.
"In a democracy people get the leaders they deserve"
Oh well.

I know a lot of people i work with were scared of the NDP. Also people already in the market don't necessarly want anything to change.

It's kind of a farce that good people can't rise to the top (sorry for offending most everyone's political sensibilities)

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
