Re: US step up war on ISIL
They're all united under the same flag, I think.
(I tried to find a google image of the flag for you on the internet, but it looks like it's been removed.)

It's black like this.
A 20-year-old Scotswoman who abandoned her family to join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria has rejected pleas from her parents to return home, saying she would only come back to raise the ISIS flag over Britain. |

Re: US step up war on ISIL
On the topic of names...
'Islamic State' is a slur on our faith, say leading Muslims | World news | The Observer Perhaps they could go for "Jihadia" it has a Middle Eastern country-name type ring to it, while retaining the country's founding ethos. |
Re: US step up war on ISIL
If he wasn't then, he is now...
"My name is David Cawthorne Haines. I would like to declare that I hold you, David Cameron, entirely responsible for my execution. You entered voluntarily into a coalition with the United States against the Islamic State, just as you're predecessor, Tony Blair, did. Following a trend amongst our British Prime Ministers who can't find the courage to say no to the Americans. Unfortunately, it is we, the British public, that will in the end pay the price for our Parliaments selfish decisions. Executioner - This British man has to pay the price for your promise, Cameron, to arm the Peshmerga against the Islamic State. Ironically, he has spent a decade of his life serving under the same Royal Air Force that is responsible for delivering those arms. Your evil alliance with America which continues to strike the Muslims of Iraq and most recently bombed the Haditha Dam will only accelerate your destruction. And playing the role of the obedient lapdog, Cameron, will only drag you and your people into another bloody and unwinnable war. [Execution] [Executioner with a second British hostage] Executioner - If you, Cameron, persist in fighting the Islamic State, then you, like your master Obama, will have the blood of your people on your hands."

The governments should impose some kind or reporting protocol/ban where by no photos are shown, and reporting is limited to very basic facts. Of course in the internet age all the gruesome details will be out for those who want to find it (although even that can be discouraged) but most people will not seek it out. It's so barbaric, hard to believe people can inflict such horror on fellow humans in this time. |

Can such things really be 'relegated' to just a few basic facts? It's so barbaric, hard to believe people can inflict such horror on fellow humans in this time. |

Re: US step up war on ISIL
ISIS was for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria as opposed to
ISIL being for the Islamic State for Iraq and the Levant - thinking of how far the Levant stretches is certainly eye opening. It seems that they have been sending worldwide propaganda of a one eyed baby, the whole thing is utter tosh, but they are sending this as proof of the birth of the Muslim-Antichrist, and saying that this proves that we have now arrived at the Apocalypse, and it would appear it works. The thing is, those who have been to some of these parts could see why this sort of thing might work and attract many followers. If you really believe the end of the world is neigh you might throw you lot in with them if you had nothing left to lose. Quite what would make a Brit join their throng, or as the other day, a group who had planned to behead an Australian in public, and were arrested mid plan, join them either is beyond me. I don't think even a bit of most of the horrors that these people are causing is even being reported as it is too graphic for words or pictures. I cannot possibly imagine how this genie is ever going to go back into the bottle. Mass terror and brutality with religious zeal is beyond imagining. |

I cannot possibly imagine how this genie is ever going to go back into the bottle. Mass terror and brutality with religious zeal is beyond imagining. The leaders will have to be eliminated. Their followers will have to be deprogrammed or contained (Guantanamo anyone?). Tolerance of religious extremism (radical preachers for instance) will need to reduce. The important thing is that the genie IS put back in the bottle. The idea of "demonstration killings" is abhorrent. It feels like we have time warped back to the Middle Ages. |
Re: US step up war on ISIL
Maybe the world just needs to try ignoring the middle east for a while, who knows maybe it will satisfy them to leave the rest of the world alone. Doesn't seem like anyone is going to be able to win over there and bring in peace and stable government's, so why not just leave them be?

But will the countries involved voters put up with troops being killed again? |
