Never understood the fuss about bisto granules - I find dirt works just as well.

Good Lord, its not our job to monitor whether the posts serve any purpose, we are quite happy to be superfluous, just as long as no one is reporting posts for abuse or broken rules.

For the last week or so, we havent had to do much...that's a GOOD thing by the way If yous all want to ramble on and you are doing it in the right forum and no one takes offence enough to complain then that works for me.

There probably are unmoderated fora out there....usenet newsgroups spring to mind. If you want to post there then knock yourself out. I gave that up as a waste of time years ago Too many trolls and idiots for my taste.

Yes, hence my comment. At least the trolls and idiots here are somewhat reigned in. On usenet they make it pretty much a waste of time. Are there ANY web based forums similar to this one with no moderation, seeing as we seem to be discussing that?

Even facebook has administators and control over deleting content etc should the page owner desire to.

IMHO, it is the very exisitence of Mods that makes this forum 'interesting' it becomes boring bashing Newbies, Vancouverites and Nova Scotia after a while. At least when we get bored with those things we can bait the mods and call them names.

Only for so long, then I'll no doubt turn into lou ferrigno and you will likely need to find a new sandbox to play in.

I thought the name calling was saved for behind our backs anyway. I dont know, so much hypocrisy, so little time.

Scuse me, if I'm going to call you names I do it to your face and you know that.

I can with hand on heart say on the rare occassion I complained about you (or the other mods) on Farcebook I also PM'd you OR made my feelings known on here.

Sorry, shotgun post, not necessarily aimed at you in particular...

Yes, and it's one of the most successful of all time in my opinion.

There are 'spam' and 'abuse' buttons on MSE, the administrators delete threads/posts as and when it is reported to them. I am not against administrators I just think that having moderators doing gestapo-like patrols of the boards dumbs everything down.

9 times out of 10 if we act its because we are asked to step in. The rest of the time its because the thread has already been reported, so is on the radar, or because we happen to have posted in it and saw something that was more than likely to be reported, so why wait for the report.

LOL, you SERIOUSLY overestimate the amount of time we are prepared to put into this!

If the forum has dumbed down any thats likely a reflection on the people posting more than the moderation I would have thought. I cant say I've noticed a dumbing down. I have noticed a reduction in complaints and personal attacks, and perhaps an increase in new posters questions getting useful answers rather than smartarse comments.

If an unmoderated forum suits you better, then post in an unmoderated forum, this one however is moderated.

But the "spam" and "abuse" buttons are pretty much what the "report post" button on here is for. By "not moderated" the MSE admins simply mean that your posts are not pre-moderated the way, say, the BBC does on its Have Your Say section - i.e. they appear immediately, in much the same way they do here. BE's moderation (except, as I understand it, on some specific subforums and for some kinds of posts, e.g. posts from new members containing links) is post-facto, so not really any different from MSE's policy except in terminology and hierarchy: MSE's admins = BE's moderators, supermoderators and admins.
