Unionville/Markham ontario.....
Hiya...
We are currently contemplating a move from Calgary to Ontario...Just wondering if anyone knows the area around Unionville/Markham/Richmond Hill...I know the schools are good there and reasonably easy access to Toronto...I am wondering more about the 'look/feel' of the area. I guess we are hoping for a slightly more 'small town' feel....Don't know anything except what I have seen on the internet so any thoughts very welcome...
Thanks
Lisa

I guess it depends what you mean by small town... the population of Markham is about a quarter of a million. It's about 30 years too late to refer to Richmond Hill and Markham as small towns. They're both heavily developed now. I'm not saying it's a bad place to live, but the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is a huge sprawl... I doubt you will find a true small town that is convenient to Toronto.

Last night I listen to man reminisce about how Orangeville was less conservative before it was part of the urban sprawl. "People come out here, foisting 'normality' upon us" he complained.

PS, Kitten now called Dude, he goes outside, climbs trees, chases squirrels. A cute cat. To let us know when he is back and wants in, he climsbs the screen door screen and hangs on with his claws, shouting. Cartoon cat.

The long time Orangeviller is the OH's boss. As a someone who's been gay and out in rural Ontario for twenty-five years he's had some, er, unusual experiences. He used to own a bar here, "not a gay bar, there were only three of us in the county - more a place families could come to, but with drag acts".

Happy to hear Dude's doing well, the remaining siblings do much the same.

His best story concerned a customer who made it to the National Enquirer. Page four but still the actual Enquirer. He was a one armed man, shot by a one legged man in a dispute over the stripper, Wayne couldn't remember what bit the stripper had missing and it wasn't until this morning that I thought to wonder what sex he or she was (or had been if that was the part in question).

Oh! dbd33, while you're on here, you're just the chap who would know if you could get beer in cans in the UK in the mid-70's.
