When I moved "out to the country" from a densely populated urban area I immediately noticed that drivers were less courteous and put the difference down to the fact that in urban areas you have no choice but to get on with others whereas in the countryside people it seems can afford to be a bit more selfish.

Absolutely the case. I have never been able to describe this, this well.

And in the suburbs some city's have schools bursting at the seams they have so many students to accommodate.
Its become a messy situation in Vancouver all around.

You know what gets me about Canadians?
They don't say thank you when you let them in in front of you (e.g. When they're trying to get on to the road from a parking lot).
I just hate it. It really annoys me. I don't have to do it but I do because I'm nice. But they can't even say thank you!!!
I keep promising myself that I won't do it anymore...but I do...then I get annoyed....

For all their politeness, helpfulness, friendliness etc etc why the hell does this desert them when it comes to leaving shopping carts in the way?
In our local (more than) mini-market so many people walk through the doorway and just lift their bags of groceries from the cart and then walk through the outer doors, blocking the doorway with their deserted carts. It's so thoughtless.
And many of those that don't leave them in the doorway, put them with the wrong line of ready to use carts (they have two kinds) so that they don't slot in, creating an unnecessary back up that soon gets in the way as much as the discarded cart.
It's completely contradictory to other positive behaviours.

1. How they treat animals
2. How they treat restaurant serving staff
3. And finally...if they return their supermarket trolley to the 'return area'

Servers (or in this case I think it was actually the manager herself) who serve you a below-par meal, get 3/4 of the order wrong and provide bad service and THEN lecture you in the middle of the eatery because you left 0% tip.
Yes, 'La Brasserie des Artistes', this is YOU.
AND I've heard you do it before to other customers!!!
