We realised mid road trip just how different driving styles vary by location. In BC, everyone complains about seeing red plates going 30 over the limit - but I now know better! Alberta drivers speed like the clappers, and overtake anywhere, but they can at least *drive* (on average, as all of these), unlike Saskers who treat merge lanes as T-junctions, or Manitobans who think driving is a zero-sum contest, where the more road space they deny you, whether they're using it or not, the more points they get.

You park at the mall and walk together to the nearest door. You reach for the door, intending to hold it open for your companion, but then realise that she's walking briskly along the outside wall of the mall, headed to the next door. You know that, if you go after her she will say something like "the shop I want is nearer the other door" and, whatever you say, will seem ridiculous.

This is a big fricking hate.... some of the on ramps on the gardiner are so poorly designed (Spadina into Jarvis off ramp, the 100m for the S.Kingsway going east etc etc) but it seems to be an Olympic sport to speed up, getting as close as possible to the person in front to not let someone in, don't understand it. Tailgating is horrendous here, as is lane discipline. I've seen some pretty horrendous lane changes, cutting across 4 lanes of traffic to make the exit at the last minute etc. actually surprised I've not seen an accident unfold before my eyes.

Is it possible that people have overly fond memories of driving standards in the UK?
I'm not a driver but I have been driven and maybe I get to experience more drivers in their cars than drivers do, mostly only experiencing their own driving.
I also experience drivers as a cyclist and pedestrian and I'd far rather do that here than back in Bristol.
Someone back a bit (Millie?) commented about politeness or friendliness or whatever it was. Maybe it's just NB?
