Great! A person in an Apple store told me no re the DVD's due to format and copyright laws. They couldn't answer my question re the AirPlay speakers and I didn't have time to hang around and pursue the questions further.

Thanks :)

The DVD's would either need to be ripped and added to the iTunes library or you could use mirroring to just play them on your Mac and view them through the ATV on your TV

I am considering getting an Apple TV thingy. Will I be able to load my DVD's onto my PC and play them through iTunes?

If I am watching something via iTunes on my TV will the sound come through the TV or can that be switched to AirPlay speakers?

Thanks :)

It doesn't have to be iTunes...the world has moved away from iTunes years ago. There is a myriad of alternatives out there that will do a better job

From what I understand, the Roku is a better unit and has more utility.

I think I will have to rip them as I am using a PC. Now I need to figure out how to do that. Thank you.

You should have "gone to specsavers" mate :D

The ATV isn't "great" without it being jailbroken...and that is a fact

http://www.dvdfab.com/ to get around the region lock and then use whatever to rip it, Handbrake is probably a good option these days. I personally like using VLC to convert things to other formats, but there are plenty of other options that have a more friendly UI about them.

That was a good one, but it's not been updated in years as far as I could tell.

I think your right there Bob but I have mine set for no updates anyway as its a dodgy downloaded copy - I found it a fairly simple programme and quite user friendly compared to some of the retail ripping ones out

I was going to say, what is this...the 90s ? :D

VLC amongst other user friendly ones that require only a couple of clicks, and Bob is your uncle :D
