If you have an iPhone theres no way unfortunately, but if you are on android there is an [albeit buggy] version of adblock plus, but again it only works when you are on a Wi-Fi connection, it won't work over 3G/4GLTE

I remember selecting a "don't automatically play video" option on the guardian. Just had a look and I can't see one now, but my videos don't automatically start so it must still be working.
