Hi
I've been looking on viewit.ca and found an apartment in an area of Toronto that I know really well and would love to live in when I move there in July. When I phoned up the lady was very helpful and I found out the landlord was Toronto Housing (torontohousing.ca). I've been on their website which says this :-
'Toronto Community Housing is the largest social housing provider in Canada and the second largest in North America. It is home to about 164,000 low and moderate-income tenants in 58,000 households, including seniors, families, singles, refugees, recent immigrants to Canada and people with special needs.
Our tenants come from diverse backgrounds. This diversity includes characteristics such as age, education, language, sexual orientation, mental and physical disability, religion, ethnicity and race as well as increasing diversity in lifestyles and values.
Our portfolio includes more than 360 high-rise and low-rise apartment buildings, as well as about 800 houses and duplexes throughout the city.
Toronto Community Housing was formed in January 2002, bringing together the assets of the former Metro Toronto Housing Corporation and the former Toronto Housing Company.'
I really don't want to come over as a snob but in the UK someone I know is in a council flat and he is surrounded by all sorts of drunks, druggies and the police are often round. Just not sure about Toronto Housing. If anyone has any experience of them and can let me know it would really help.
BTW if anyone else is searching for properties to rent in Toronto myhood.ca is very useful as it places things on a map and better still has reviews from past tenents.
Many thanks,
Jason

Hi Souvenir
That is the one. I know that area pretty well as I have always stayed there in the past when I have visited. Just wondered if it was wise to live in Toronto Housing accommodation?
Thanks for your reply.
Cheers,
Jason

The monoxide towers!
That's a nice location, I'm very surprised you can get something there.

Hi dbd33
I know the location and have seen pics of the interior and exterior which all looks OK. From 'Monoxide Towers' do you know something I don't?
Cheers,
Jason

The Monoxide Towers is a large metro housing building over a parking lot, I know it well as I lived at 25 The Esplanade for years and parked there. I first assumed that was the building you had in mind. Looking at viewit (vit 51044) though that's not the Monoxide Towers but one of the buildings on the east side of Jarvis where all the Coops are. Nothing wrong with that location and the buildings are quite new, you might have some rent-geared-to-income neighbours but nothing too fightening, I'd jump at it.

Hi dbd33
I was just a bit worried about the type of people that may be living there as I was potentially comparing it to some of the council accommodation in the UK. I've also just got an email from a friend in Toronto who said the same as you, that there may be some rent-linked-to-earnings people living there but hopefully not too scary.
Thanks very much for your advice.

Jason

Thanks very much for your help!

Hi dbd33 and Britishvixen
Thanks very much for your help. It's been invaluable! It is the area I know best in Toronto and when I saw it I really wanted it. I think you have both allayed my fears with regards to Toronto Housing.
If you ever want me to buy you a beer when I get there just remember I owe you both!
Cheers,
Jason
