What I heard - David Moyes has promised fans of Manchester United they will win a major European contest this year, even if he has to write the song himself.

I certainly didn't expect that, thought at best we may get a draw.
Just a perfect storm on the day of Arse being poor and everything coming off for us. Still think they (Arse) will get a minimum of 2nd.

Very good, but I'd expect nothing less when visiting Stamford Bridge. The Toon are in shambles right now after Cashly flogged Cabaye and didn't reinvest the proceeds. What with Remy being suspended and Collocini and Tiote being crocked they're going nowhere but down the table.

There's been much rubbish written about ManU over the years, refs in Ferguson's pocket, lucky cup draws etc
But over the last few years it really does seem they had the odd bit of good fortune.
For this reason I thought it would be quite typical that they'd do something like win the CL and displace someone from the CL or that they'd be the first team to benefit from the new win the Europa League and qualify for the CL rule.
But it's just not on is it.
Pre-Moyes, today's equivalent would have seen them go on to win 3 or 4-1 having come from behind.

Fellaini and Mata are good signings but more are needed.
The problem is players are getting harder and harder to sign and the fees to get the players you want are astranomical. Are the Glazers really prepared to sanction the 3 or 4 additional big buys that Manchester United need if they are to be a competitive force with the likes of City, Madrid and Bayern again?

Three or four teams have all just had their first wins against ManU for 20, 30, 40 years.
This is not just last season's championship winning players reporting back for the new season missing much of their ability and confidence or growing old after the three month break. There wasn't even a summer tournament on which to blame fatigue.
I have no doubt that if Fergie was younger and was continuing he wouldn't have failed to improve the squad over the last few years.
But it was still a Premier league winning side 3 months before Moyes took over.

That's better. bindiippers makes much more sense.
But, let's talk Toon if we may. Ashley has managed to flog off one decent striker to Chelshite for 7 or 8 million, and Chelsea have sat him on the long end of the bench ever since then, next another decent striker, Cissé, was forced to play with the logo of a usurer on his chest and has turned from being a prolific striker into a forgotten man. I'll not bring up the cashing in of Carroll for 35 very big ones, but more recently Cabaye has also been cashed in with no replacement in sight.
Add to that the suspension of Remy and the absence of Debauchy, Collocino and Tiote through injury, there's really no hope.
In Ashley's view of course, everything's going swimmingly. The Toon are hanging around mid table and most likely will avoid the drop (they've got to win at least one or two more games, you'd think). So all's well.
Then we have the bizarre episode with Ashley's appointment of JFK as Director of *****all and his recent "retirement". Need I say more?
Now, I know that football is just a business these days, but I'm getting rather sick of the whole nonsense to be frank.
