"The result means Newcastle United are now unbeaten in their last 13 Premier League matches, their longest top flight run for more than 61 years, since a 14-match unbeaten streak between April and September 1950."

I've been to St James Park and Roker Park many times. Those were the days when you could decide to watch a match on the day and stand and watch for less than 3 pounds.

Ouch! Maybe magnumpi remembers exactly but I do recall they were in the top six for while.
I'm not expecting Newcastle's start to continue (maybe for one more match), but they only need another 18 points from the "last" 28 games to survive.
Stranger things have happened (especially in Newcastle) but I'm beginning to feel quietly confident that they'll still be around next year.

Well the second half was a bit tense, but three more points anyway, still undefeated and (however temporarily) in
SECOND PLACE!!
I suppose that if you have to play both Manchester clubs away and then host Chel$ea, a two week international break is likely a good thing. I hope Tiote, Cabaye and Obertan are fit by then... they were missed today.

Just got this from BBC text commentary today
25 years ago today, when Alex Ferguson took over at Manchester United the bottom 4 clubs were Chelsea, Man united, Newcastle United, and Man City. The top 4 today
Interesting coincidence

To continue the analysis from an earlier post, in the 10 fixtures from last year corresponding with the 10/11 matches they've played so far (the other one was an away draw with promoted QPR) the Toon have 24 points compared to 6 last year.
Canny that.
<and they only got 1 point last year from their next three fixtures this year: can they improve on that? I certainly hope so>.
