Pathetic, and what where the police doing at the time this was going on?

Stopping opposing views from clashing too hard, and ensuring freedom of speech I expect.

I can sympathise with them....

Nope. The extremist don't speak for all Muslims. It's like saying that the EDL, BNP, National Front and other White Racialist organizations speak for all white people.

I'm surprised that people think all the muslims in that video actually believe what they were saying (looking naked, seducing men, burn in hell, etc). I'm more inclined to believe they're a little caught up in the moment and said things they didnt really mean.
However, that doesnt make it right or any less palatable.

I do believe though that the UK has long since crossed a threshold when it comes to immigration- particularly with immigrants from Arab or middle Eastern countries. The UK is a good example of an immigration policy having failed. The government should be firm and issue a "put up or shut up" message- much like the Australians have, and show the door to anyone who doesnt like it.
The UK doesnt provide a right to "free speech" (in the American sense), and should simply lock up and/or deport those that are trying to incite racial hatred, incite riots, or conspire to commit other criminal acts.

Hmmm

I remember driving through France and seeing signs saying La France: aime-la ou quitte-la! All from Le Pen's Front National.

It is not company I would like to keep.

But... what is wrong with saying "France, love it or leave it"? That's not even racist. It's simply saying that you either accept the country you are living in with all its good and bad sides or leave it. Or am I missing something?

How do you accept a country?

OK, put this in to context if it makes it easier...

Do you accept Canada for what it is? Or do you feel you need to make changes and inflict your ideas on the rest of the population??? :frown:

I think you are. The slogan is intentionally divisive. To create an us and them sentiment amongst the indigenous population. If an immigrant wants to come to our country they should be happy to doff their caps, work s****y jobs for less than minimum wage and be grateful for it. It means the immigrant should not expect the same due process that an indigenous person expects. They are slightly less deserving of consideration as a human being.

I know that is not what the words say, but in mainstream politics you cannot speak extremist views out loud. You have to speak in code. Decoded, "France, love it or leave it" means **** off darkies.

I don't think Canada is perfect (we elected Harper FFS). But part of the responsibilities of living in a democracy - both in Canada and France - is to engage in the political process.

Yes, I accept Canada for what it is. A country moulded by the input of immigrants.

Yes that all makes sense. Sadly. I grew up in France and the French do have very strong opinions on foreigners.

I can't help but think that they're right "generally" but nothing to do with colour or race. If you're an immigrant and you're not happy with the religion of the country you're living in or the culture then why did you move there? Move on...

But I am very naive when it comes to politics and have always embraced the culture of the country I have lived in... :o

+ 1. Isn't that what democracy is supposed to be for.

Well they are not going to move back, they came for a better life and in the main have it, it would mean moving back to north africa, ME or the indian Sub continent. I suspect some will move on, to Canada, Australia and the states, professionals mainly, their children will become disenfranchised and in turn will become radical. It is coming to a town near you, nothing you can do about it.fletch
